MS03 - Optimization Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering

Organizers:
Paulo Fernandes and João Folgado (IDMEC-IST, Portugal)

Optimization methods have been intensively applied to study biomedical and biomechanical problems. Actually, the adaptative character of biological materials suggests an optimal response that can be modeled using optimization methodologies. Moreover, the design of biomedical devices benefits with the use of optimization methods to develop enhanced systems. In this field problems are often multiphysics, multicriteria and involving several scales (multiscale) bringing new challenges to the research on optimization. For this minisymposium, submissions are invited on optimization methods applied to biological materials and tissues, medical devices and biomedical systems.
